Congratulations to Toyplayer for becoming the first finalist in the National History Day contest ever from our Very Red State, and the top Junior Division entry in the state!
And congratulations to everyone at the national event. Most entries were polished and informative. We never tired of watching, listening, looking.

Pregnant Pause

Suddenly, the music stopped.

Barbie Bear Baiting Anticipated

"You have an eternity in which to explain, and only one night to be a bear in the NG4J pit," Hobbes Junior told her. "Go on, darling, and let me see the Barbies bait you."

Pleading

"Hobbes Junior, do please let me go home and explain," Annie pleaded.

. . . And Nowhere to Go

As though he read her mind, Hobbes Junior's claws closed on her arm in a grip that would leave a bald patch.

All Dressed Up . . .

. . . All Ye Who Enter Here

Annie thought, "Why did Hobbes Junior drag me here? What will they do to me? What will Anastasia do? Oh I can't face her. I will turn tail."

Captist Honor Flag

The den was packed with guests. A blue Doo-Doo Girl quilt with ungainly bloodred stitches hung over them all like a Captist honor flag.*
