Ask Anastasia: What Makes a Bear Lady
Also after the "Newlywed" post, Terry wanted to know, "If you are married to a Bear, does that make you a bear lady?" We will let Anastasia handle this one.
If only it were that easy, Miss Duff. Being a bear lady is all about being kind and gentle, and a good Captist. It is about breeding and upbringing, and refinement, but most of all about trying to make the rough path of life smoother and easier for everyone around you.
Sometimes I get sad, thinking that since the War Between the States of the Soul, everything has gotten ugly, including behavior. It seems as if Gentle Bens and Bear Ladies are a dying breed. But then I think of my Pooh, and Annie, the dearest, kindest sister a bear could have, and her brave husband, Captain Hobbes Junior, and I know it isn't true. The War of UnCaptist Aggression destroyed many things, but they were just things, of no importance. The Captist Spirit lives on in all warmhearted Captists, be they ladies or gentlemen, bears, cats, or dolls. It is that Spirit that inspires a true Bear Lady.

We're sure glad that spirit doesn't live on in dogs. Thank you very much.
I really like Bare Ladies. I didn't know it was that difficult to be one. Thank you for explaining it! I think I'll go over to the Ravishing Woo Woo and try to cheer the hard-working Bare Ladies up.
so bear ladies don't bite off the heads of unsuspecting husbands? they are gentle and kind? man oh man, you're giving me an identity crisis!
if I'm not a bear lady, what am I?
You're welcome, T&I.
Tom Thumb and Kyahgirl: You are laboring under different misconceptions. It's BEAR lady, T. T., not BARE lady. Being a bear lady, Anastasia is shocked at your mistake. And Kyah, Earth's "bear lady," a sort of growly, commanding woman, is quite different from what Anastasia has in mind. In fact, I think she completely misunderstood Terry's question. So you may go on being a bear lady if you wish, and Terry should know that marrying a bear will not make her a bear lady in ANY sense, although it may earn her jail time on our planet.
Thank you for your enlightenment. I do have trouble knowing what a Captist is, since I have never heard the term. But at the risk of appearing ignorant, I do agree with your opinion of the Gentle Bens and Bear Ladies becoming an endangered species. I am a crow, but in being with a true bear, I find some of our characteristics beginning to blend, if not melt together. I truly like your definition of being a bear lady - I hope to become more like one someday.
I'm terribly afraid it is now MY turn not to understand you, Miss Duff. I don't know how our species could be blending, even though my own dear Little O is an owl. But of course there is nothing special about bear ladies or crow ladies. It is being a true Captist lady that matters most.
